Marine Environmental
As a diversified company, Sub Marine Services Ltd has become increasingly interested in the environmental aspects of the marine industry. We have been involved along the development chain on assignments including environmental de-silting and sewer outfalls, and have carried out various seabed sampling projects to varying sediment depths as required.

Core sampling
SMS have undertaken coring for the provision of information such as:
- Sediment composition and geological studies
- Data for FEPA (Food and Environment Protection Act) studies
- Leachate and ecotoxicity levels
- Archaeological potential of material
Seabed survey
Investigations carried out have included analysis of seabed material for constituent depth and quantity, as well as providing consulting engineers with environmental data for marine life investigation and survey.
Sub Marine Services utilise airlift surface recovery methods and can provide underwater still photography, underwater video and diver verbal reporting and written reports to support any findings.
Environmental de-silting
Dredging and sediment removal are vital aspects of maintaining many commercial marine locations and opening or expanding the use of others. As part of our continued involvement in this field we now have the capacity to carry out backhoe, suction and grab dredging for both capital and maintenance applications.
We progressively employ moon pool and silt curtain type technologies to minimise environmental impact and to comply with DEFRA, Environment Agency and English Nature regulations.
Sewer Outfall at Croyde
Sewer outfalls
The improvement of the UK’s sewage systems has brought about a need for competent diving and marine contractors to install sewage outfall pipes and maintain them during their years of service. At Sub Marine Services we have been involved from the outset on many projects which have greatly improved the cleanliness of the seawater and beaches around our coasts.
As well as installing and maintaining many sewer outfalls SMS regularly conduct inspection and survey work on various marine side/onshore and offshore sewer system components to continually support effectiveness.
